A Day of Apple Picking at Leighton House

On Saturday, October 28, 2023,  Westbury Area Network volunteers visited Leighton House, a historic mansion with a beautiful orchard of rare apple trees. The volunteers had a wonderful time picking apples, learning about the different varieties, and enjoying the scenic views.

The apple picking activity was part of the Westbury Area Network’s mission to promote community engagement and food security. The volunteers collected over 200 kilograms of apples, which they donated to the community fridge users and distributed in crumble packs for the exciting Abraham’s Kitchen initiative. Abraham’s Kitchen is a project that aims to provide nutritious and delicious meals to people in need, using locally sourced where possible.

The Westbury Area Network would like to thank the Army at Leighton House for their generosity and hospitality, and for their help and support. The Army Officer Selection Board volunteered to assist the Westbury Area Network with the apple picking and gave loads of information on the apple varieties and their uses. They also shared their stories and experiences with the volunteers, creating a friendly and fun atmosphere.

The Westbury Area Network is always looking for new volunteers and partners to join their activities and projects. If you are interested, please get in touch at westburyareanetwrok@gmail.com Thank you for your support and see you soon!
